George Kontaroudis, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, CPHD
I am the founder of KWH architecture. I graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and since then have worked in Greece, the Middle East and for the majority of my career in the United States.
My design is centered around human needs. I seek to create spaces that are comfortable, healthy, and environmentally conscious while at the same time evoking design sensibility in both exteriors and interiors.
My greatest focus is on Passive House. I’m a Passive House advocate and an educator with the Building Energy Exchange.
I serve as the vice-chair of the Board of Directors of New York Passive House, an advocacy group, where I am also the co-chair of the Local and State Policy Working Group for . I also teach at The New School, The Pratt Institute, and New York Institute of Technology, as well as in the online Master’s program at the University of Oklahoma.
I am licensed to practice architecture in New York and Greece. I am a LEED AP BD+C, a Certified Passive House Designer, and a trained Climate Reality Leader with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Corps.
Before studying at the Bartlett School, I earned my Bachelor's Degree at the University of Lincoln in the UK where I developed a passion for sustainability. I won the second prize at a Commonwealth-wide student competition for sustainable development and innovative building technology, awarded by the Eric Lyons Memorial Fund.
I live in Brooklyn, New York with my wife and two daughters.
