NYC Affordable Housing Competition, NYC

The competition was organized by Bee Breeders, now Buildner in 2017. The brief was to envision a model for affordable housing in NYC.

Our team worked off the principle of a 12.5 wide module, thus the proposal was called MOD 12.5. Most NYC city mid-block parcels’ widths are a multiplier of 25’. An efficient residential grid is about 12’ wide, so by using these basic principles we were able to create multiple combinations of floorplans as shown on the 2nd plaque of the proposal.

In collaboration with Karolos Keranis & Dimitris Stivaros

Using prefabrication and repeating components costs could come down while improving quality for the residents.

The proposal was shortlisted among thousands of submitted projects.

Date of design: 2017
