Regional Administrative Building Competition, Elefsina, Greece

In collaboration with Aris Komninos, Nikos Patsopoulos, Eleni Karanicola, Dimitris Tsitsanis, George Karampelas

When the Region of Western Attica was looking to create a new administrative building for its services, they launched a competition aiming to get a building that utilizes a very large site in the most efficient way.

Because the land sits right next to an archaeological site, our approach was to design the entire building as low as possible and on one level around a series of courtyard for maximized natural light. A public park was placed on top allowing residents to enjoy a new green open air space that provides a lot of serene opportunities.

A lot of emphasis has been given to the sustainability properties of the building with efficient orientation, shading as well as Passive House design principles to ensure the least amount of energy usage and the most healthy and comfortable interior environment.

Date of design: 2018
